Finnish choreographer-dancer Sanna
Kekäläinen's solowork THE BEAST - A Book in an Orange Tent is approaching the
concepts of memory, identity and representation. THE BEAST, premiered in Kiasma
Theatre Helsinki in November 2011, belongs to the successful series of
Kekäläinen's solos (Puna-Red-Rouge 2007, Onni-Bonheur-Happiness 2009). Known
for her cutting edge works which combine different art forms, Sanna Kekäläinen
has a long and remarkable career in the field of contemporary dance. In
Kekäläinen's works the sharp thinking, surrendering to instinct in movement and
political wittiness create unique dance aesthetics of poetic intelligence.
Kekäläinen’s personal point of view and strong stage presence open a genuine dialog with the audience. She combines political and conceptual thinking with strongly physical movement language and she has been described as a poet, provocateur, problem-setter and promoter of female existence.
Choreography, concept, text and dance: Sanna Kekäläinen
Choreographer’s assistant: Lilja Lehmuskallio
Lighting design: Heikki Paasonen
Production: Kekäläinen & Company / Kiasma Theatre. With support from Dansens Hus, Stockholm
